Welcome to the home of the AtomicSupergeek
I have spent over 30 years in the IT field. This site is all about sharing my vast experience gained over those decades. Computers have definitely changed from when I started to now. I started in the days of the Apple II and PC compatible MS-DOS systems that may or may not have hard drives (well high school was even before that - but let's not get too crazy here). I have seen many changes over the years. We moved from the days of character based computers to the adoption of the graphical interface. We had expensive Unix. Then there was the release and growth of Linux. With the growth of Linux we had the growth and greater adoption of Open Source Software. The Internet brought us massive access to knowledge. And now we have cloud computing and DevOps tools and processes. Things really have changed.
Although things have changed much has still remained the same too. There is still need for backing up data to prevent loss. There is still a need to work on Linux systems with a character based command line interface. The true power user will learn to meld the old and new skills. The thing is we cannot remember everything. Having resources at our fingertips is important too. As much as I would like to say I remember everything I have to admit that I regularly refer to my notes on how to run different commands, or write script code. So this site is, in part, a collection of those notes. The notes will help you learn new skills as well as be a reference when doing day to day work on things you already know but forget some detail.
